STOP Skinning!

Chinese New Year marks the start of the Chinese Year of the Snake, but as I write this note, snakes, alligators, lizards, and crocodiles in many places in the world, from Florida to the Philippines to South Africa, are being painfully stripped of their skin—usually while still alive—so that these “exotic” skins can be made into belts, bags, shoes, and even jackets.

PETA and our affiliates are leading the global fight to stop this trade and to stop these animals’ suffering. Won’t you help strengthen our groundbreaking work to get wildlife out of wardrobes right now?

Every snakeskin belt, every alligator wallet or handbag, and every other exotic-animal skin sold to consumers starts with horrific suffering.

We must make sure that everyone knows that snakes are routinely taken from their homes and nailed to trees before being skinned alive and tossed onto a pile to die. They can suffer for days before succumbing to shock or dehydration.

Every day, these fascinating forest and river animals are trapped and beaten and have their skin ripped from their bodies simply to create a look. PETA and our international affiliates are the only organizations with a comprehensive approach to reducing the suffering and deaths of snakes, seals, geese, dogs, cows, rabbits, foxes, and other animals killed for their skin. Will you help us do more for them in 2013 by making a generous gift toward our work to promote cruelty-free fashion?

Our wonderful, compassionate supporters are helping us change the world for animals. Last year, following discussions with PETA, clothing retailer ANN INC., with more than 900 Ann Taylor and LOFT stores in the U.S., banned the use of exotic skins, and the PUMA Group, which distributes footwear and apparel in more than 120 countries, and Mango, with 2,060 clothing stores in 104 countries, banned fur and exotic skins from their product lines. This spares countless animals a horrifically painful death.

We can end the cruel slaughter of animals for fashion, but we need your help. Please take a stand today to help us end the suffering of animals wherever and whenever it occurs.Thank you for playing a part in our work to stop the abuse and neglect of animals!
